Sunday Club

Sunday Club meets in the Parish Room during the 10.30 Sung Eucharist service on the second Sunday of each month. At present, there are three teachers and the programme is aimed at children of primary school age. Thankfully, however, many stay on and we have an 'upper house' called 'TOFFS', that is Too Old For Sunday School!

We use the Church of England "Living Stones" syllabus. This course provides excellent ideas and resources each week. Living Stones follows the Church of England Lectionary, therefore, Sunday Club activities are aligned to the readings used in the Eucharist service, which runs in parallel with the Sunday Club. Living Stones also containss resources suitable for all the age groups involved, including those of pre-school age.

A typical session, lasting about 30 minutes, might involve a welcome chat, a prayer, a Bible reading or story, a quiz or an activity involving reading and a work sheet. Sometimes, songs or drama are included if there is time. Afterwards, everyone returns to the Eucharist service and may receive a blessing or Holy Communion at the altar rail. After the service, many stay for refreshments and a chat in the Parish Room.

The whole Junior Choir are part of the Sunday Club, but all children are welcome to attend, including visitors. The PCC would also welcome additional helpers with suitable training and qualifications. All adult volunteers are subject to regular enhanced Criminal Records Bureau checks. These checks are funded by the Diocese of Oxford.
